How to Install Conspicuity Tape
Practical install guidance for vehicle conspicuity tape: surface prep, temperature, pressure, common failure modes and links to trailer and DOT-C2 product pages.
Before you start
- Confirm SKU, color pattern and width against the work order
- Read the TDS temperature and surface notes for that construction
- Product entries: conspicuity tape, trailer tape, DOT-C2 tape
Surface preparation
- Remove loose rust, flaking paint and thick wax
- Degrease with a cleaner compatible with the substrate and adhesive
- Dry fully — moisture traps create bubbles and edge lift
- Mark alignment lines lightly; keep segments consistent around corners
Application basics

| Temperature | Stay inside TDS window; cold weather often needs staged warming |
| Liner removal | Peel gradually; avoid stretching prismatic faces |
| Pressure | Firm overlapping strokes; pay extra attention to edges |
| Joints | Follow the drawing for overlaps/gaps; do not invent splices on regulated kits |
| Corners / rivets | Relief cuts only as the work instruction allows |
Common failure modes
- Dirty or silicone-contaminated paint
- Stretching tape around tight curves
- Applying over fresh paint outside cure window
- Ignoring edge seal requirements when specified
After install
- Inspect continuity of the pattern at night with headlights if practical
- Document lot numbers on the work order
- Schedule re-inspection after the first wash cycles for fleet programs
