What Is Retroreflective Material?

What does retroreflective mean?

Retroreflective materials are engineered to bounce a large share of incoming light back toward the source (for example vehicle headlights), so signs and markings stay visible to the driver.

Everyday “shiny” surfaces can be reflective without being retroreflective. Traffic and vehicle safety products rely on optical structures such as glass beads or microprisms to create the return path.

• Sheeting — roll film for signs and many advertising faces
• Conspicuity tape — vehicle perimeter marking tapes
• Apparel fabric / HTV — clothing and PPE lines (only if you stock them; not the default of this hub)

What retroreflection does not tell you

1. The exact ASTM Type or EN RA class of a roll
2. Whether a tape meets DOT-C2 / ECE / SASO / SOLAS without documents
3. Outdoor life in every climate
